Welcome to our Autumn Racquets Newsletter! As the evenings draw in we still have got plenty happening across both tennis and padel at Mode Club to keep you active, social, and enjoying your time on court. Here’s everything you need to know for the season ahead.

Adult Competitions – Tennis & Padel
Adult Competitions – Tennis & Padel

We’re nearing the completion of our first ever club championships with just a few matches to play across tennis and padel! Thank you all so much for those who have taken part and expressed interest in similar events going forward. The deadline for the completion of any outstanding competition matches is Sunday the 19th of October with prizes and winners to be announced at our next social event (please see below!).

Adult Leagues – Tennis & Padel
Adult Leagues – Tennis & Padel

Our seasonal leagues are back and better than ever; congratulations to our ladies and men’s teams on some close battles and great victories! Leagues are a brilliant way to play regular matches, meet new people and track your progress over the term.

We have gendered and mixed teams entered into the Winter Floodlit League and men’s and women’s teams entered for the iPadel Winter league this season. If you would like to try out for any of the league teams whether that be tennis or padel please email tennis@modeclub.co.uk for more information.

Social Play & Events
Social Play & Events

Racquets at Mode is all about community. From weekly social sessions to relaxed mix-ins, there’s plenty of opportunity to enjoy the game without the pressure of competition. Please do check the noticeboard in the hallway to find our new Autumn timetable for classes in the lead up to Christmas.

We also have two community Whatsapp groups for both tennis and padel: if you would like to be added please email tennis@modeclub.co.uk and we can add you to either or both groups.

Class and Court Bookings
Class and Court Bookings

Don’t forget you can book courts and group sessions directly through the club app or at reception. Spaces for popular classes and peak-time courts can fill quickly, so it’s worth booking ahead.

If you’re unsure which session suits you best, please contact the racquets department. We have had a few instances of padel and tennis players attending the incorrect level of class.

Racquets Court Bookings / Non-attendance
Racquets Court Bookings / Non-attendance

We have noted recently that a high volume of bookings have not been attended. This means courts lie empty and other players who would like to play, have been unable to get on court. As a result, the below measures should be followed moving forwards.

1 – When you attend the club prior to the start of your booking, please ensure you swipe your card or use the App QR Code to gain entry to the club, this will register your attendance at the club.

2 – Once you have entered the club, please show your confirmation email to one of our reception team who can check this against the court booking and sign you in as ‘attended’. If you do not have the confirmation email please state your name, court booking and the time of the booking.

3 –When booking courts please try and add the name of all players at the point of booking the court (if known).

Any bookers who do not follow the above steps will be marked down as ‘un-attended’ and will receive an email warning. A second missed booking will mean that booking rights for courts for the head booker will be temporarily suspended for a period of 30 days, other players listed do not receive any penalties.

If you know that you will be unable to attend your booking, please cancel the booking as soon as you can. This frees up the court for other users to book. If you can also let the WhatsApp group know that may allow other members to get on court at short notice.

Class and Group Session Bookings
Class and Group Session Bookings

The bookings for tennis and padel sessions booked with the Technogym App will now be managed in precisely the same manner as all other classes on our adult timetable.

Where a class space is not attended or cancelled within 12 hours the member will receive a ‘strike’. If a member receives 3 ‘strikes’ within a rolling 30-day period they will have their booking rights temporarily suspended for all adult sessions for 30 days.

To ensure that you are registered when you attend your tennis or padel group session please ensure you swipe your card or use the App QR Code to gain entry to the club, this will register your attendance at the club. Where a coach takes a register please also ensure that you give your name to the coach.

If you do cancel within 12 hours you will still receive a ‘strike’ however please do this as it will still open a space for another member to book.

Waiting lists for all classes are in place up to 12 hours prior to the class. If a player cancels their space more than 12 hours prior to the class, those on the waiting list are contacted and offered the space. If, however, a class space is cancelled within 12 hours then the waiting list is not contacted but the space is still available to be booked. Therefore, if cancelling your space within 12 hours please inform the WhatsApp group that a space has been created as this will support other players getting on court.

The overall aim of the processes for both court booking and group sessions bookings is to enable courts to be used as frequently as is possible. We do not wish to penalise players however where members defer from the booking process, thereby restricting the playing opportunities of others, we feel it is right to take this action.

Junior Classes

Our junior programme continues to grow, with sessions for all ages and abilities running throughout the week. Junior coaching is a great way for young players to learn new skills, make friends and fall in love with the game. Speak to a member of the team if you’d like to your kids to join in the classes. After the half term break we will be looking to add some weekend morning junior classes on Saturday mornings. If this is something that would appeal to your kids please email the racquets department for more information.
